SCHOTT is an international technology group with over 130 years of experience in the fields of special glass, special materials and cutting-edge technologies.

SCHOTT is one of the leading companies in high-quality glass production for a wide range of industries and is also committed to sustainability in the areas of the environment and energy consumption.

Since 2011, SCHOTT has relied on the energy data management system e-Gem from FlowChief, which is certified according to ISO 50001. The existing software solution was replaced step by step while maintaining the measurement infrastructure. Consumption data is collected across all locations using U160X summator stations from Gossen Metrawatt. FlowChief developed a driver, which speaks ECL, a proprietary system language of GMC, on the field side and behaves upwards as a standard OPC server. In addition to online consumption data, archive values, system data and bus characteristics are also recorded for monitoring the infrastructure.

In the future, approximately 50 employees will work with the system in the company and access the application via browser without installing any additional software. According to Lothar Kretschmer, Head of Energy Management, this was also one of the main reasons for the changeover. “The effort was simply too great. Only a few employees had access to the system and were increasingly busy transmitting their consumption data to third parties. The prerequisite for a new system was therefore non-discriminatory, end-to-end access via a web browser.”

The Group’s central administrative structure is continuously synchronized with e-Gem. An organizational tree is created that is historically correctly mapped by the application. Measuring points are organized as absolute, proportional or virtual points of delivery in the tree. Furthermore, an assignment to media and tariffs is made.

e-Gem acts as a data hub within the company. Energy planning, peak load optimization, billing and technical services are constantly accessing the data and using it for your individual tasks.
