Connectivity

The world of automation is diverse. Depending on the industry environment and requirements, different interfaces are used for communication with visualization and control technology. FlowChief has a large number of connectors in the form of integrated drivers and standards, enabling future-proof and industry-compatible communication with top performance. The OPC UA standard is becoming increasingly popular, especially in the industrial environment. This is also because all control system manufacturers have now integrated the standard. With client and server versions of OPC UA, FlowChief can both acquire data and make it available to third parties, making it ideal for vertically integrated communication in the Industry 4.0 environment. With security functions such as TLS encryption and authorization, nothing stands in the way of its use outside the OT in the IT environment.

We work with all

OPC UA Logo

OPC UA (Client,Server DA, HA)

The industry standard is deeply embedded in FlowChief’s DNA. The client version enables data acquisition from controllers or other software. With the OPC UA server function, data can be transmitted to higher-level systems in distributed architectures. In both communication variants, in addition to real-time data, historical values can also be synchronized or provided on demand at runtime (HA – Historical Access).

MQTT Logo

MQTT (Client Pub, Sub)

MQTT is the standard for IoT messaging. FlowChief connects to a broker as an MQTT client and can therefore subscribe to data. If topic content is transmitted in a nested JSON structure, user and meta information are read via an integrated JSON interpreter. When data needed to be transmitted to higher-level systems, it can be transferred to the broker via publishing.

SIEMENS Logo

S7 (RFC1006, TIA)

FlowChief offers an integrated driver for Siemens S7 300/400/1200/1500, supporting communication via RFC1006 as well as via S7TIA (module-optimized access) and with it symbolic addressing. With communication via S7TIA, various options are available in TIA for implementing secure communication (specific release of data areas or password protection).

Modbus Logo

Modbus

Modbus is a standardized industrial protocol (IEC 61158) that is widely used in almost all industries. The protocol is based on a client (master) – server (slave) principle. A client is usually connected to numerous server devices. The client (FlowChief) is able to communicate bidirectionally (capture & control) and performantly with all devices.

FlowChief Connect Logo

FlowChief Connect

FlowChief telecontrol technology is a flexible, cost-effective telemetry solution based on standard PLC components for recording, monitoring and controlling buildings and machines. More than ten different controller manufacturers and over 25 PLC series are supported. The connection to higher-level applications such as process control systems, databases or IoT portals is made via the FlowChief Connect gateway software and a manufacturer-independent OPC interface.

IEC 60870-5-104 Logo

IEC 60870-5-104

The IEC 60870-5-104 protocol is an international standard for communication between control center and substation via TCP/IP. With the natively integrated IEC 60870-5-104 master function, FlowChief can be used as the control center of a telecontrol system. FlowChief also supports the option of secure end-to-end communication via X.509-based certificates between RTU and control center.

OPC Logo

Classic OPC (DA, AE)

Classic OPC is a client/server technology that has been used millions of times for communication between control and visualization for over 20 years. In addition to DA (Data Access), FlowChief also supports the A&E (Alarms & Events) standard for recording alarms.

Datei und API Konnektor

The FlowChief file and API connector can recognize, interpret and automatically capture data and meta information from almost any text structure (e.g. CSV, XML, JSON, TXT). These texts (e.g. in the form of files) are retrieved via FTP, e-mail or HTTP request. The acquisition of data provided by portals or platforms via web service or REST API is also possible.

web.API

A SOAP/JSON Web API is available for interaction with other software systems. For example, it offers the possibility to automate engineering tasks or to query data models with actual or historical values. FlowChief can so be optimally integrated as a service into existing IT infrastructures or ecosystems.

FlowChief has numerous other communication options that are based on the standards mentioned or which are available as integrated drivers – a selection:

  • BACnet/IP
  • SNMP
  • MSCONS
  • SICLIMAT X
  • M-Bus
  • Gossen Metrawatt ECL
  • Various PLC protocols (e.g.: Beckhoff ADS, CoDeSys)
